Hot Technologies for 2015

How is your 2015 going? Hold on to your hats because there are a lot of hot technologies that are making their way into the IT mainstream during the next few years. For some, many of these technologies do not roll off the tips of their tongues…yet! But these technologies are coming of age, and for me one of those listed below will have more impact than any of the others…

1. Internet of Things (IoT): Devices of all types with embedded software and internet access that are capable of sharing extraordinary amounts of data. Basically, everything connected to everything from wearable devices and homes to cars and the smart grid. In the words of Goldman Sachs in their white paper “The Internet of Things: The Next Mega-Trend”:

“The Internet of Things, or IoT, is emerging as the next technology mega-trend, with repercussions across the business spectrum. By connecting to the Internet billions of everyday devices--ranging from fitness bracelets to industrial equipment--the IoT merges the physical and online worlds, opening up a host of new opportunities and challenges for companies, governments and consumers.”
