There are those days where everything goes right--traffic is light, your email inbox is empty, everyone at the office is in a good mood and all your projects are in a green status. Then there is real life, where none of this actually happens all on the same day.

Project management is full of difficult situations, and it often seems as though nothing is going right at all. The project manager needs to be ready to face these challenges. While it may seem like all of project management is dealing with issues, risks and problems with the team, if you can learn to deal with the problems in the correct manner, then every now and then you might just have one of those days where everything goes right.

Research
Research is a key tool for project managers. While you may depend on your team and subject matter experts for many things, it is important that you spend the time doing your own research on problems that arise during the project. There is no substitute for understanding the details of a complicated workflow business process when you are trying to figure out how best to meet the customer’s expectations. Knowing exactly how the system is being changed can help determine the schedule and process for testing and implementing those changes.
