Innovation remains the key differentiator in terms of how your organization’s products and services are perceived by customers. Today, design teams are tasked with designing an innovative product and project managers are tasked with delivering that innovative product in line with customers and stakeholders expectations.

Given the urgency of meeting project timelines, we are often accustomed to take a more frequented path rather than challenging the orthodoxies and picking an entirely new path. This eventually makes us look less courageous, more cautious and innovation averse.

Innovation must be adopted, and project managers must take calculated risks, discuss new ideas and encourage implementing ideas that are promising improvements. Innovation is never “big or small.” Ideas that can positively impact the end result and help us learn the new way of doing things must be welcome change that every project manager should embrace.

In this article, I will present some tips on fostering innovation and sustaining it in our day-to-day project management activities:
