Book Review: The Power of Project Management Leadership
On a high level, we are expected to drive software for successful implementation and drive audits effectively and efficiently, all while satisfying the stakeholders who are being audited and the senior management of the firm. As a result, expertise in program management is required for the successful professional program manager.
I first came across Laszlo Retfalvi while attending a project management webinar on ProjectManagement.com to strengthen my CPE credits for my PMP. I had attended his recent webinar, Strengthen Your Project Management Leadership Skills. I was fascinated about the perceived difference between project management and project leadership, and the requisite skills for both.
How can a project manager gain the vision and enterprise perspective to envision the end state and have (and use) the understanding of the enterprise portfolio to see above his or her project? How do the projects interrelate into the enterprise portfolio and the enterprise strategy for the projects initially? Does a leader use different skills than a project manager? Is “project leader” seen as a different career path?
