The Value of Revisiting Assumptions

I wanted to share an idea that has been spinning in my mind for a while--it is about the advancements in the world surrounding us and the importance of our assumptions.

I am a fan of technology. I’m willing to follow tech news and get excited to see what the next iPhone or Galaxy Note will look like--and what all the other cutting-edge tools will offer. A few years ago, Samsung introduced the then-new concept of the big-screen smartphone; we now call them “phablets.” I see the big screen just as a bigger phone, which might make you laugh. That doesn't sound like a smart guess; however, it is exactly the point.

Let’s go back about 15 years. Does anyone remember the Nokia 3110 or 1611 anymore? They were also big phones, relatively with the same size (length) as today’s phablets like the iPhone Plus and Galaxy Note. Tech companies struggled to build smaller phones after those old big phones. You probably remember some of them, like the Sony Ericsson Walkman edition and the Nokia 8800. The eagle eyes see it like this:

Big phones --> Small phones --> and, again --> Big phones

I believe the revolution of smartphones started when a brave person challenged the answer to a very simple question: "Are cellphones just for making calls?"

Tech companies started to revisit assumptions about cellphones. Touchscreen technology …
