The Digital Requirements of the Digital PM
Even though a “digital” project manager may have the distinction of having a bit more panache in their title (similar descriptors have appeared on job boards for the same position, such as web project manager, web producer and digital producer…no doubt there are a half dozen more), they are at their core project managers.
Additional technical credentials can help them own the “digital” part of their role, particularly when it comes to knowing tricks of the trade and having enough expertise to speak to an IT project team without masking their lack of knowledge on the components needed for any given task at hand. Admittedly, they cannot be a Jack of all trades with every technical project, but those with the right experience can focus their energies on appropriately matched efforts and integrate themselves well with other members’ qualifications.
A digital project manager, aside from having project management skills and a technical background, may also need to display strength in how they employ and incorporate tools and techniques into the project processes of a more digitally driven world.
