How to Use Your Network Effectively
Grant Cardone, a real estate mogul and entrepreneur, defines your network as your “power base.” This network includes friends, family, past and current employers, neighbors and so on. Anyone you come in contact with is a part of your network. He talks about your network regarding selling. These people know who you are, and most likely trust what you say. They are the perfect clientele. Rather than cold calling strangers or knocking door to door, these people already have a connection to you.
Relying on advertising to move your product can be frustrating. You are paying to have your product blasted all over, yet the results may vary. This same approach to project management and your career can have similar results. How many times have you sent out your resume to receive no feedback? Blasting out your resume is not enough to land your dream job.
There has to be a plan behind it. Shooting buckshot is not an effective hunting technique. You want to strike with precision and intent. The same approach should be used for your network. Mass sending emails shows a lack of intimacy in your message. Your network is made up of people you know. Send them personal messages.
