In the past few years organizations have had to embrace change at a faster rate than at any time in history. Technology has made innovation possible at an ever accelerating rate. It has increased expectations from customers while lowering the will to wait for solutions. Technology has also broken down barriers to entry in many industries and driven internal change both inside IT and beyond. Software-as-a-service solutions are now the norm and the shift to cloud based infrastructures continues. These changes have been dramatic, but there is no evidence of any slowdown as technology continues to drive both expectations and transformation.

There is a lot of talk about a new and emerging trend — digital transformation. A web search will likely lead to more confusion than clarity in trying to understand what it means. For this article, I’ll quote Agile Elephant who say “Digital transformation is the process of shifting your organization from a legacy approach to new ways of working and thinking using digital, social, mobile and emerging technologies. It involves a change in leadership, different thinking, the encouragement of innovation and new business models, incorporating digitization of assets and an increased use of technology to improve the experience of your organization’s employees, customers, suppliers, partners and stakeholders.”
