2020 Technology Update: AI, 3D and IoT...Oh My!
Wow! We’re into a new decade! In 2019, my annual Technology Update focused on converging technologies (AI, Robotics, IoT, etc.) and the possible implications. In 2020, with so much happening, the Technology Update provides a targeted summary of the space and where it is all headed.
This year, the technologies covered include:
- Artificial intelligence
- Robotics
- 3D printing
- Internet of Things (IOT) & Bodies (IOB)
Artificial Intelligence
According to Spiceworks’ “The 2020 State of IT,” business will triple its use of AI-powered technologies in the next few years. In addition, Forbes predicts (in its article “The 7 Biggest Technology Trends In 2020 Everyone Must Get Ready For Now”) that the majority of AI will be delivered as a service (AIaaS) through providers like Amazon, Google and Microsoft. However, these services will not be of the plug-and-play kind. Instead, they will most likely be expensive and require customization to comply with the needs of the businesses using them.
Forrester and IDC predict that over 50% of data analytics will make use of AI technologies. They also report that over 25% of management-level developers worked on machine learning initiatives in 2019. Based on this and other research, they predict that AI will be integral to business, with “Outcomes-as-a-Service (OaaS)” commanding
