In the first article in this series, we learned how important it was to ensure your workers had completed a general corporate orientation prior to beginning of your project.  You looked at a list of everything that should be covered in such a program and understood why you had so much trouble with productivity.

But wait! The general orientation is still not enough! You must also complete a targeted project orientation to cover topics specific to the project activities.  Now let's see, who is the person responsible for ensuring a proper project orientation is designed and rolled out? The project sponsor? No, the sponsor is fighting a losing battle to maintain funding for your project. The team leads? Sorry, they are wandering around with glazed looks, awaiting their own orientation.

Looks like everyone in line has taken a step back leaving you as the volunteer. But that's as it should be. This is your day to shine, to use your power as project manager, such as it is, to rally the troops. Great leaders throughout history have taken seriously their initial speeches and actions. You should do the same.

In order to be successful, you must cover all the correct topics for all project workers.  Just in case all these topics are not clear in your mind, here is a list of topics to cover that will increase the sophistication level of your project workforce.
