Virtual Hiring and Onboarding
It’s close to a year since the world went virtual almost overnight. While there are some signs that there may be a light at the end of the tunnel in terms of the pandemic, remote working is here to stay with many businesses finding that it is effective, efficient and embraced by employees.
From a day-to-day work standpoint, virtual teams have been far more successful than many organizations expected. However, there are some aspects of work that are facing more substantive change as a result of remote working models. Here, I look at the idea of remote hiring and onboarding.
I recently hosted a webinar with someone from the healthcare industry who had been faced with this challenge. She told me that her new hire had said, “I’ve never felt more part of a team than I do here, and I’ve never physically met anyone.” That really struck me; it’s a testament to how well the process had worked for that manager and team member.
So that got me thinking…how can we make that the norm instead of the exception?
Interviewing is different
The first thing to acknowledge is that remote hiring and onboarding are different to the traditional way of doing things. As a result, we have to adjust our approach, both in practical terms and also when it comes to making the individual and team more comfortable.
