Choose Your Own Modeling Adventure: 4 Paths to Project Success
A project manager takes that which lacks definition and form, and through leadership, business and domain expertise, prototypes a vessel (i.e., a charter) for the journey ahead. However, before seeking its commissioning, the captain goes against the tide and procures a skeleton crew to test its seaworthiness and identify any deficiencies that would prevent the vessel from fulfilling its directive.
After multiple excursions to assess the capabilities of onboarded features and functions, the crew discovers numerous critical flaws that would compromise their objectives and immediately return to drydock. Following a comprehensive review, the team identifies an “unrecognized assumption” as the culprit for the failures and, through challenge-based problem solving, determines a solution and initiates remediation.
The crew, understandably energized by their discovery and adaptations, congratulates the captain on “righting the ship” despite the political pressure to proceed with the onboarded payload—from which the captain says, “Team, we have just begun; let’s make another run and push the envelope even further, and repeat this process until our due diligence provides a demonstrative framework that will commission success to this ship’s future crew.”
