A Blueprint for Improving English-Language Skills in Your Chapter
Communicating effectively is crucial to delivering a successful project. To prepare members for a world where English is the primary language in many business settings, the PMI Sao Paulo Chapter created the Social Language Project.
“[The members] believe that having English as a second language has become a ‘must-have’ skill in today’s multicultural and global world and an important tool to manage successful projects,” says Silvana Tovar, the Social Language Project Manager. “Keeping that in mind, and with the purpose of preparing excellent project managers, we have structured this initiative to provide a safe environment to practice and improve English speaking and listening skills.”
Lasting 12 weeks and offering one session per week this year, two cohorts brought native and fluent English speakers (as well as PMI employees) together with members to discuss and debate topics and improve conversational skills, Latin America Chapter Engagement Manager Natalia Tavares explained.
