You may understand that artificial intelligence and machine learning will be important for your future, but you might not be clear on precise details of how the technology will be used or how projects will be affected.

There are a lot of possibilities, but it will help to go through one type of application in one project to give you a basis for further discussions—for example, with your network. In this example, machine learning is used to complement automation of manual effort using one or more “bots.”

Machine Learning Complements Automating a Group of Manual Steps
Projects to automate a group of rote manual tasks are lower risk and provide medium levels of financial benefits, and thus continue to grow in popularity. Many of these tasks, however, require more than just coding some bot to do the work.

For instance, in the cases of categorizing large amounts of incoming emails (so that they can be routed to the appropriate human specialists for processing), a simple bot might panic and run.

Simple automation bots specialize in navigating through web pages and completing simple tasks. They cannot interpret the unstructured content of email messages to make decisions like categorization. It takes machine learning to complement the function of the bot.
