Shining the Light on the People Side of AI
PMI recently produced a very comprehensive research report about transformation driven by artificial intelligence: Leading AI-driven Business Transformation: Are You In? When the industry that has been the foundation of my career produces insight into the biggest disruptor in business today, I’m going to take notice—and there is a tremendous amount of immensely valuable material in the report.
What I want to look at specifically is something that I don’t see addressed anywhere near often enough in most of these AI reports: preparing people to deal with AI-driven transformation. The fact that PMI has included that material reinforces just how important project professionals are going to be going forward—but it also highlights the work that organizations need to do to prepare their people for this change.
Personalizing AI transformation
In particular, I want to look at section five in part two of the report: “Make AI Transformation a Personal Transformation.” That section starts with this:
“Organization leaders want the transformation to be a win for everyone involved. Otherwise, later changes will not be successful. This section offers insight into creating personal ownership among all employees, based on being integral and positive parts of the change.”
