I have done both (at the same time). I coordinated the upgrade of our SQL Server databases to the latest version. I worked with several teams who were managing their part of the project. I was in charge of coordinating schedules, tracking where we were in the projects, reporting status, facilitating meetings. I also managed the development of several applications. When I manage a project I assign tasks, communicate with stakeholders, track risks, manage resources, etc. The project manager is more deeply involves, whereas the project coordinator is doing more administrative work and tracking.
Very useful answer (I'm studying for the PMP exam). And what about project expediter?

I am not sure. So I looked it up and found this "Project expediters are most often tasked with materials management and logistics for the project. Project expediters are particularly important in large projects where significant materials use is expected and cost containment is vital. The project expediter works with suppliers and subcontractors to oversee the timely manufacture and delivery of materials in the quantity and quality ordered."

Really funny ! So what's a paper pusher exactly ? Don't be upset but my english is not efficient as an american native so I ignore many slangs.
If you check my profile and what I do with regards to projects, you'll see exactly what that term involves lol. Project coordinator is more an entry-level ; project manager is professional level (mostly).
