We all try to be optimistic, but there are a few projects I have been involved with in the past that I knew were likely to fail from the start for various reasons...and for various reasons I still accepted the project.

Obviously being optimistic about a project is definitely the preferred attitude. But we don’t always have the luxury of 'free choice' as to what projects we become involved in. Once attached to a project that you may have been pessimistic about, you have to strive to see it as half full.

I like to take on projects with an optimistic attitude. Some projects cautiously optimistic.

If you take on a project with a pessimistic attitude it will be felt by the team and you are really setting the project up for failure.

Gotta be optimistic. And if we are not truly optimistic, we can certainly portray optimism even when highlighted challenges or likely hurdles. Optimism is an attitude; a mindset.

My Skype tagline is 'be optimistic...'

I am always optimistic. If I cannot be optimistic then I cannot do the project. Even if the project has a poor history, I always think that this time I can achieve the desired success.

I agree with my fellow colleagues. Optimistic is the way to go ... You always have to be optimistic except in your estimates :D

From my personal belief and practices, the answer is an absolute yes!. I will be going to any project with a "full plan" and an optimistic mind. I have read a few articles where the author remarked optimism is a bad practice. I do not share the same viewpoint. While optimism does not guarantee success in every case, it offers enthusiasm, a can-do attitude, hope and a creative mind.

Sante.

Positive input will produce positive out put and vise versa so optimistic is the way to go, you expect good you will find good - you expect bad you will get bad

I am always optimistic and would like to take on projects with an optimistic attitude. I usually control my optimism when working on about estimates, risks and assumptions.
