Do you think that people can effectively multi-task?

You are a PM and On a conference call but at same time you are checking and reading emails- Do you think it is embarrassing to ask the other on the phone to repeat.
Or some one talking to you in your office and you're typing email at same time.

I think it can not be done with 100% focus on both tasks - one has to suffer

Some multi-tasking of routine things is reasonable. Yes we do things while driving our cars.

But texting on a mobile phone, while driving a car, is not a good combination.

It depends on the amount of attention required. Especially if it involves communication.

On a large scale, I think of multi-tasking as "spinning plates". I can give one plate an extra spin (get something moving on that project that someone else should be doing), then pay attention to another plate to keep it spinning (delegate something, answer something, communicate something), then move on to the next plate.
Keeping all the plates spinning at the same time. :-)
