Difference between 5th & 6th edition exams?

Hello Friends,
Has anyone taken BOTH the 5th & 6th edition exams? Was there a shift in certain types of questions (i.e. formula-based, situational, sequential, Monitoring & Closing, Social Responsibility)? Or if you studied for the 5th edition, but were going to the miss the cutoff date, how was the 6th edition exam different than the 5th edition study material?

The only reason anyone would require to sit an additional exam is if they let their cycle lapse.

There have been threads here where individuals have prepared for the 5th, but due to unforeseen circumstances, sat the 6th edition version and did just fine. There are the main differences as described in the change overview, including the coverage areas and topics on Agile.

The way I see it is if you know your stuff, and have remained a student of the profession, you should do just fine.

I know a couple of people who studied for the PMBOK 5 version of the PMP exam, yet sat the PMBOK 6 version of the exam and passed. Not saying they wouldn't have got a better score if they had studied the 6th. But what I am saying is it appears the changes weren't big enough as to fail someone who had only studied with PMBOK 5.

Very interesting to hear! I guess it does give hope to those who were feeling crunched for time to meet the 5th edition exam cutoff, though passing the 6th edition exam is no guarantee.

Brad,

Whatever those changes were, remember that PMP tests your knowledge beyond any text book but of course you should be familiar with the terminologies for example the added Risk Response Plan “Escalation” and so on.

6th Edition is not a total rewrite like 5th Edition was not.

I don't know if the percentage of change was evaluated it must be low, even if it is more than prevision revision

My opinion is read all version 6 why can say how much difference than 5 version. Because, there are a lot change in ITTO's , additional chapter, additional concepts..etc.

I suggest to read this version to avoid any confusion!!
