why do I want to accept networking invitations from other members?

I get networking invitations from other members who I don't know and who are in a different profession than I am in. Why do I get these invitations and what do they and I expect to get out of accepting their invitation? I don't see any benefit at the moment. Saving Changes...
Thanks Sante:
No, I added them when I first joined as I assumed we might participate in a helpful discourse, but after receiving many more invitations, began to wonder about the real purpose.

Boon,
In my humble opinion, you made your comment very general and I somehow believe is it unfair to many. All members of this community are professionals and I do not think any of them are here to play any games plus there is no reward what so ever for reaching high numbers.
Different people think differently so if someone is being persistent, you can message them privately and either tell them not to add you or ask them why they are addding you or just block them but being judgmental is not the right approach.
Colin, I am really proud of all Gurus here Andrew, Rami , Dinah, Sante for their valued reply and support here, this is a true essence of been member here you don't weight your network by just benefits or the interest you think you should gain. it is a broad minded community here you don't under estimate the value of even unknown person he or she might save your life down the road with out even knowing him or her, I have found quality people here and we became friend and it looks like I know them over 25 years that's a silver jubilee of accomplishment.

Riyadh, do we get a Guru certificate? I have space on my wall; a LOT of space. I know Dinah has no space left, but trust me she will find a way hehe.

Rami, likewise, same feeling and same respect here for you too. Salute
Yes I would agree that building a network isn't a game, but a smart thing to do. Rami's list of advantages for networking go the same for this site, Linkedin, and other networking platforms. Saving Changes...
