why do I want to accept networking invitations from other members?

I get networking invitations from other members who I don't know and who are in a different profession than I am in. Why do I get these invitations and what do they and I expect to get out of accepting their invitation? I don't see any benefit at the moment. Saving Changes...

Colin, also to note, those you connect will bolster your activity feed. You can see the activity of your connections and contribute to the same.
The rationale behind those reaching out to connect is purely community driven; nothing nefarious. The community is built and strengthened by those who accept its terms and openly enjoy being a part of and contributing to the various aspects that make up the community.
I'm sure there are other members that have some set of criteria for adding those to their network, for example, when accepting invitations, the criteria I choose is not what industry or profession a member is in, but rather if they took the time to complete their profile. On the contrary, I want to engage with and hear of other's experiences! Saving Changes...
