Taking full advantage of membership in PMI Chapter is important to justify paying the fees.
I have seen many benefits listed in the website but I could not avail any in the last two years.
I couldn't be able to join a single event of the chapter, the main two reasons; the distance is five hours drive and the timing does not match when I'm around.
It is the most important monthly event for me and I cannot wait for it, at least I can meet professionals from industry.

I am least bothered about PDU because you can get it here. but meeting professionals is my main thing.

Kevin, I agree with you that the intend is not the PDU we can get it here and some other professional development paid courses, meeting professionals is more important for your networking but in my case it is faraway from my reach.
I haven't attended any Melbourne PMI events yet, tsk tsk.

I tried with PMI KSA chapter, I suffered with this chapter I didn't got any benefit from them!!
Once I attend one Risk management conference, until now I didn't got any attendance certificate although I sent a lot of e-mail in several times unfortunately no respond. Really very bad chapter I am annoyed from them!!! I paid a money to attend this conference!!
I don't understand as I am as PMI membership, these conferences should be free!!! why should I pay a money to attend this conference if I am PMI member!!!

I only joined the Melbourne PMI chapter relatively recently, and the first bunch of emails I received was to attend a conference worth over $1,000. Talk about a bad first impression to involve new members.

Tamer, I see your frustrating points, and even with been a member you still have to pay to attend any event starting from $50 and it goes to thousands
it looks they need to restructure the way they operate.

Kevin that's why it is Gulf cooperation council :)
I'm definitely not taking advantage of any of my local Chapter's offerings now, but that's my issue due to a lack of time or motivation to participate in evening or weekend events.
Having served on the board for six years (more than a decade ago now), I continue to renew my membership to support the Chapter out of a sense of loyalty, but they are certainly not hurting for funds as they've always had healthy cash reserves.

Kiron, that's a good point to continue supporting their "big cash"

This is an interesting discussion. I have been paying the fee for my local chapter for a couple of years and have not really received benefits. I guess getting emails telling me of upcoming events is a benefit. I went to an event a few months ago and am going to a monthly chapter meeting next week. But the thing is I still need to pay for these. Being a chapter member saves me $5. So looking at the ROI, I spend something like $150 a year to save $10. Last year I got my company to pay for it. Not sure if they will pay this year. So I need to think seriously if I want to continue to make this investment.
Will see how next week's meeting goes. Maybe I will be able to get more involved and find additional benefits. Or maybe I will decide that it will be better to continue as a non-member.

Dinah, exactly that's my point I like the analysis of your numbers 150 / 10 some fellow members might object this is not an investment to run ROI, I think there should be more benefits for those who can not attend the event due to living faraway from the chapters. I am glad that you attended one or two
