Are you taking full advantage of your Chapter membership ?

Taking full advantage of membership in PMI Chapter is important to justify paying the fees.

I have seen many benefits listed in the website but I could not avail any in the last two years.

I couldn't be able to join a single event of the chapter, the main two reasons; the distance is five hours drive and the timing does not match when I'm around.

Should I continue paying ?

What's your experience ?

Riyadh -

I'm definitely not taking advantage of any of my local Chapter's offerings now, but that's my issue due to a lack of time or motivation to participate in evening or weekend events.

Having served on the board for six years (more than a decade ago now), I continue to renew my membership to support the Chapter out of a sense of loyalty, but they are certainly not hurting for funds as they've always had healthy cash reserves.

Kiron
Kiron, that's a good point to continue supporting their "big cash"

This is an interesting discussion. I have been paying the fee for my local chapter for a couple of years and have not really received benefits. I guess getting emails telling me of upcoming events is a benefit. I went to an event a few months ago and am going to a monthly chapter meeting next week. But the thing is I still need to pay for these. Being a chapter member saves me $5. So looking at the ROI, I spend something like $150 a year to save $10. Last year I got my company to pay for it. Not sure if they will pay this year. So I need to think seriously if I want to continue to make this investment.
Will see how next week's meeting goes. Maybe I will be able to get more involved and find additional benefits. Or maybe I will decide that it will be better to continue as a non-member.
Dinah, exactly that's my point I like the analysis of your numbers 150 / 10 some fellow members might object this is not an investment to run ROI, I think there should be more benefits for those who can not attend the event due to living faraway from the chapters. I am glad that you attended one or two

Actually, I just looked. My chapter membership dues are only $40. So if I start making an effort to take advantage of my chapter more, the ROI may work out. Let me try this for awhile and then reevaluate.

I believe it is always good to belong to your local chapter even if you do not make use of benefits now, you might in the future and the annual fees are reasonable.

Rami, thanks for your comments I didn't argue the amount if it is reasonable or not , I mean we pay more than that. I'm ready to pay more if there is 1% value. Maybe I don't see any point right now however I have not stopped the payment now. Total membership fees can reach up to $1500 per annum

I've attended some events over the past couple years. The location and timing are not always conducive. Still, I plan to continue to support at this time with my membership fees.

I don't think I'm taking full advantage of the chapter membership, since I was not able to attend any single event so far.

Tamer, I see your frustrating points, and even with been a member you still have to pay to attend any event starting from $50 and it goes to thousands
it looks they need to restructure the way they operate.
Any council or institute, when you attend a conference for two or three hours should be free!!!

For this chapter, no benefit no certificate and also coffee break i was very poor!!!

The first chapter workshop I attended was interesting to me because there were guest speakers and we were introduced to PMBOK 6 and the PMI talent triangle. We are now forming regional structures to avoid travelling for hours to attend in other provinces.
