From my experience in construction project ,i understand that close the project is mean final closing after passing the warranty and guarantee period .In our project we divide closing into two stage primary closing and final closing .
My question is ,why it is not clear in Pmbok this matter ? Saving Changes...
I agree with you, in Oil and Gas we have the same.

Totally depends on the project scope definition.
In a product development company, it could be 2 separate Projects.
1. Development Project and finishes the project once the handover to regular maintenance/operations department is done since the target of construction Project is accomplished by delivering the building on time is accomplished
2. Support /Operation project (s)- to support the issues arising in the lifetime of the building and warranty issues as and when it comes. this will end like you said- after guarantee period.
I am not an expert in the construction projects. So I could be wrong also
Closing snag list is an important part of the closing and it is the responsibility of the project manager and it is in PMBOK as part of responding to the inspection.
However, commissioning and warranty period could stretch to 5 years and usually, a commissioning manager will be appointed to manage that period usually.
Maintainance/ support is part of the operation.

I agree with you ,but i mean the period between primary closing and final closing it may not include warrant e period which reside to operation manger .
Project lifecycles vary widely between industries and companies. The PMBOK provides a framework which can be used as a reference but is not expected to cover all possible permutations and combination of approaches.
I haven't read it, but I wonder if the Construction extension to the PMBOK Guide covers this specific nuance for closing?
