It is a great start and shows employers that you have the necessary knowledge. It is purely knowledge based. I find it valuable for people who does not have enough experience to apply for PMP.

Any certification can show that you can make the commitment to work hard and achieve an outcome. CAPM is a first step to towards becoming a project manager.
Is it going to open any doors? Maybe not. But it shows where your passion is and if a job is between you and someone with comparable skills but you have a CAPM and the other person does not, it may tip the scales in your favor.
I will always say to go for it. Get your CAPM.

If you could spend the same money and effort achieving the CAPM but gain hands-on PM experience, I'd go with the latter any day of the week, but as the others have said, it does show "some" commitment to the profession.

However, you might get more bang for the buck by taking a good foundational course in project management which includes an actual case study that the class works through from start to finish...

I think any certification that is well recognized and up to date with the times is worth obtaining. Whether that be the NICET certs, maybe CISCO for networking etc.. Anything that is common and seems like a standard is worth looking in to.

I highly recommend it not only for a university student, fresh graduate or even someone wants to develop himself into project management, it is highly valuable as a tool for learning a systematic approach to life.
Professional life is all about two approaches whatever your career is; Operations and Project Management. So it is either you are doing a repetitive thing or you are performing a job with start and end steps.
If you can afford it go for it.

Mines gave me recognition enough to have more interaction with projects...I accept the small creep towards a larger role. I shall continue to work on it. I recommend CAPM for those without PM exposure.
