Is Wrike a good alternative to Microsoft Project, or is Project the best? I'm considering reasonably-priced or free software alternatives. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks Saving Changes...

Probably not the most expected recommendation, but I have seen many projects done just in Excel. Especially small ones.
But all dependencies and updates have to be managed manually.
Pros: everybody has the tool:)
Also if the project is sort of agile or scope is a driver (not resources) maybe KanBan board to manage can be considered (many tools here available, like Jira) .
I used this with good success and dropped MS Project (used initially). Saving Changes...
We use workfront, I'm still learning. However whatever tool you will use, remember that will not solve your procedure issues. Define a process and understand your state gates (if any) and after look for the tool. Saving Changes...

Project is the gold standard that has been around for years and years and years. The reason why it has been around so long is because when it comes down to making a project schedule with the features that are critical to making a project schedule, MS Project beats all projects. So, yep definitely alternatives out there, but the scheduling engine, status date, forward and backward passes, other products just don't have the same functionality. Saving Changes...

Is anyone using agantty? I need a simple tool to outline small to medium project milestones, dependencies, and timelines.
Eventually some stakeholders may input and edit their own tasks, but for now I'm looking for something that is flexible, easier to manage then project, and I can export plans to pdf for presentations.
thanks!
Jeff
Hi Jeff, have you tried Instagantt (https://instagantt.com/). It might meet your needs; very easy to use and also 'plugs and plays' with tools such as Asana. Possibly worth a look. I've actually used the 'live' view to present to stakeholders and it presents quite well when projected. Saving Changes...
MS project is good at features, which integrated into MS eco-system, if you are a ms user, using project save you a lot of time. However, if you're talking about price with similar features, Wrike it is. Saving Changes...
My opinion is "its depend on what u want it for". Saving Changes...

We use Primavera on our (large) project for our official schedule. For individual sandbox schedules and personal schedules, the team uses a variety of smaller programs, such as MS Project and OmniPlan. But as others have said, these are all mostly alike and have similar capabilities. Saving Changes...

I think it depends on the features you are looking for in your project management. If it is basic ones, you do not need Microsoft Project.
As already mentioned in other posts there are a lot of alternatives out there and in the end it will be more or less equivalent unless you want to do specific things in which case you can research per features. Saving Changes...
