Lunch & Learn ( L & L ) are considered quick session to deliver valued information and condensed eye opening training on certain topic to the team.

Team members feel happy getting free lunch and learning at same time, it helps to break the routine cycle of every week.

I thought it was Love them & Leave them ;-)
Sante, that's sense of humor would definitely be during eating time as we drift from main presentation to general discussion or quick jokes:)

I concur with Andrew on this. Based on our schedule we try do lunch together at least once in a week, and the "Learn" is just a general discussion of what's going on with the current project, nothing formal.
Anish, are referring that you provide every week free lunch

My company prefers to use this technique as an informal way to meet and greet stakeholders in a relaxed environment. No formal business discussed.
Theresa, that's sound also good for stakeholders introduction, plus we use it for short training or special presentation to the team, thanks for added point

Lunch and Learn is very good for exchanging knowledge.

It can be done in many formats having an external person to present.

Or in a less formal way get someone from the team to present a subject, or key information about a recent event, conference, training that was attended.
Vincent, thanks for elaborating more on this and that's exactly what we do either external person or internal person provide the presentation or short training

Andrew Thanks for your comment, do you mean that you bring your own lunch and over 25 people for example bring their lunch and you eat every day together, that's not considered L & L and I assumed you can not spend every day to feed all team, so when we arrange that it is free of cost to the team and there will be a presentation / hook the laptop HDMI Cable to the big screen TV the session last from 2 hours to 5 hours maximum for that day training the team on particular topic we start at 11 am then at 12 noon lunch time starts foods comes in and during lunch general discussion after lunch time back to presentation till 3 or 4 pm at the most.
I would make earlier arrangement and ask the team what would they like for lunch from which restaurant that day and pops/juices, chips ,nachos, and cookies will be on top of lunch.
It is important to announce the date before couple days or even a week so that day no one bring lunch from home
Five hour L&L? HC! That sounds like a seminar :)

Andrew, true but it is on site or where ever the team attending, most of the time three person would miss the whole due to critical task they carry that day but they would come for lunch and later the knowledge will be transferred to them from other team members

But then is that still considered a L&L? Isn't the L&L an activity to span the lunch hour :)

We do have L & L in our office once in 3 months.
During my PMP Prep stage i and my colleague use to do L & L every Friday in our office, it was a great sharing info and spreading knowledge.
