Dear All,

I am writing to know about fellow professionals opinion on the present situation in Project Management Professional Job Market. What I feel is that there is slow down of available international opportunities for the profession. Further, I observed that LinkedIn network is least helpful and other fellow professionals share the same opinion that they never received any offer or even interview call, after years of applying on this network. To link the both issues could you please share your opinion that it is either less Jobs for PM in Job Market or its LinkedIn which has no serious active role in Job Market and one should diversify their search to get some results.

Thanks & best regards,

Yes even i have mixed feel about my Linkedin Profile, when i log in it says your profile has been appeared xx number of times and people who viewed your profile has gone 10% up compared last week, but no one contacts me about Job openings
Exactly. That was my point too.

I second you. LinkedIn have became more like a social useless site rather being a platform which gives opportunity or open doors for career growth. I hardly find any better Project Management related post/vacancy or any informative stuff over there in last few months.
And with each day linked In is becoming more like another Social Networking site where most of the listed Jobs are only to attract audience. Very rare real stuff.

I agree that LinkedIn has become more social in some areas. But it is still the best business site. As for the job board, I have not used it much. I usually search on actual job boards like Indeed. There are many more posting on Indeed than on LinkedIn.
Dinah, have you find indeed good for high end upscale jobs or just a regular one

I am not sure of the definition of high end upscale jobs. There are quite a variety of jobs posted on Indeed. I am not currently actively looking, but my boyfriend is always looking. He found his current job on Indeed and has found several others that he has applied for. He hears back from some, not all. The last time I was searching I was at a bit of a disadvantage. I live in an area where many of the companies are looking for people with active security clearances. I no longer have one. So it has limited my opportunities. I also decided that I do not want to work on contracts anymore. I think about 90% of the jobs I have seen lately are to work on a contract for the federal government.

Hence with all the feedback I read I am now confident that one should seek PM opportunities elsewhere locally or internationally, instead of relying on LinkedIn cause its not a good Job Board but a fairly better social networking and connection website.

Asif, what Sante told is the real life it is preassigned or like WWE the result is already decided but they have to play the drama as equal opportunity employer, but when the employer can not find internal or near by then they would be desperate to hire external and that you might find it through professional website like or better by a powerful recruiter

Hi Andrew,
It is refreshing and assuring to hear that you have had some good success via linkedIn. I am yet to have that experience. As a matter fact, I have started up as a freelance PM whilst preparing for the PMP.
At this stage, I am willing to do some short-term voluntary PM to build my portfolio and get some referrals/testimonials, therefore, I would be grateful if you could recommend sources or organisation that I may approach for that.
Thank you and I look forward to your feedback. You may inbox me at [email protected]
Kind regards,
Josephine.
Josephine, wish you good luck

But Sante Vergini in that case linked In should inform their users , because many of Job seekers very well rely on LinkedIn and keep on sending CVs in vain to thousands of seemingly attractive Jobs.
It would be impossible for LinkedIn to know if the job poster was mainly intending to fill the position internally. So it's not their responsibility to inform users Asif.

Hi Asif,

I also faced same. Please find below my observation.

The recruiters will have various sources to scan and filter required profiles for their job postings. LinkedIn is one such source for them. Since the recruiters receive many profiles though various sources, they filter and pick handful of CV’s by checking few key words or adding some search criteria. Most of the recruiters will use some tools to filter the profiles. Though the profile is 100 % fit for the job, the application will not be picked for screening due the recruiter’s search criteria.

Thanks,
Nagesh.
