Dear All,

I am writing to know about fellow professionals opinion on the present situation in Project Management Professional Job Market. What I feel is that there is slow down of available international opportunities for the profession. Further, I observed that LinkedIn network is least helpful and other fellow professionals share the same opinion that they never received any offer or even interview call, after years of applying on this network. To link the both issues could you please share your opinion that it is either less Jobs for PM in Job Market or its LinkedIn which has no serious active role in Job Market and one should diversify their search to get some results.

Thanks & best regards,

LinkedIn is so far one of the best platforms to browse opportunities in most industries and positions. Other sites such as indeed.com are worth checking out.

I second the opinion about the job openings in LinkedIn. I feel that there is a huge gap to connect the right resource to the right opportunity.

Usha,

Gap will be a rather soft word i think. I seldom heard anyone landing a Job through LinkedIn.
Most of the Job postings at LinkedIn are to attract Job seekers keep using the site and keep applying without any success.

Hi Asif, my feeling is that LinkedIn is a pretty good resource for listing jobs. But remember that many jobs are listed because of the regulations or corporate policy to do so, even though 9 times out of the time they will fill the role internally. The best way around this is to approach recruitment companies directly who are incentivized to ensure the job is real and available to external applicants.
LinkedIn won't know the true intentions of job posters, if, for example, the role is a ghost role or the role is really sought internally, and for regulatory/legal reasons, they must advertize externally.

LinkedIn is very useful as far as business relations and connections! So it is a good business card! Jobs and opportunities I am not to sure what other similar options are available so i cannot compare the success of one against the others. Best

LinkedIn is a Professional Social Network application that allows users to update their status in relation to their career. HR departments still use many other methods to recruit potential interview candidates and LinkedIn is just one of them. Have a strong CV that will stand up to scrutiny, Project Management qualifications, Good personable skills are still prerequisites for any potential candidate so use your existing network and meet with people face to face you will able to easily gauge if a potential job does exist and whether you are a natural fit for the job.

I have been approached by headhunters through LinkedIn. I do not believe anyone, least of all project managers, should rely on LinkedIn for jobs. It is meant to showcase yourself. You have to find other ways to clinch the sale.

If you are serious about advertsing yourself for jobs on LinkedIn, be prepared to be active with posts and within your groups.
