I'm looking at taking more courses as it relates to PM. Just finished up learning more about Scrum and now looking to find more courses on change mgmt, risk assessment etc...
Also, wanted to know if anyone had experience with the Boston University Online Project Management courses? I cannot yet get my PMP, but still want to increase my knowledge of PM. What I am looking for is specific courses, not just general courses. I've googled a number of them and came up with ccpace, learningtree and a few others, but want to get recommendations to actual courses that someone has attended.
Thanks! Saving Changes...

Hi Susan, you mentioned that you wanted to increase your knowledge of PM. Have you considered the PM Prepcast?
The Premium Project Management PrepCast is the first true and "pod-ready" PMP Podcast. It is a full-featured PMP Audio Course that covers concepts, tools and techniques you need to understand and be familiar with to take the PMP or CAPM certification exam. It covers material in the PMBOK Guide, and includes the necessary models, theories and formulas not covered in the Guide.
The episodes are hosted by Cornelius Ficthner who is a very talented and knowledgeable guy that is easy and interesting to listen to. You won't be bored..! And, with 89 episodes that meet the PMI 35 content hour requirements, for just $49.99, it's a bargain..! You might take a moment to visit the site at http://www.pmprepcast.com and listen to some of the no-charge episodes to see if learning from podcasts is for you.

I can definitely vouch for PMPrepcast podcast. I was subscribed to that and it helped me understand PMBOK easily. In addition to that, I would recommend the following web sites for increasing your PM knowledge:
...and don't forget to visit our Ganthead website. Also, I would recommend becoming a PMI member, if you are not already, and it would help read a lot of materials online (lot of e-books) to read.
with respect to pmprepcast.com - would that be recommended listening to a rookie project manager (who's trying to learn the nuts and bolts of project management), or only relevant if your studying for the PMP.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Svend, I would recommend the PM Prepcast to any business professional - not just those seeking a PMP and not just those new to project management seeking to learn the nuts and bolts project management. Since the PM Prepcast provides a comprehensive program of episodes covering all of the elements of project management, it makes for an ideal resource to be visited and revisited. And, being a podcast program, you can subscribe to it via iTunes and listen from your PC or your handheld such as a mobile phone or iPod. What a great way to make use of otherwise non-productive time such as commuting to and from work or travelling on an airplane not to mention that a good listen can be had while jogging or doing yard work..! You can also listen to a free PM Prepcast to get a sense if this kind of venue is something you would find of value.
Also, there are a growing number of free project management podcasts that provide insights and ideas in to project management. Below is a list of some of them:
This podcast is widely regarded as the first project management podcast that started it all (project management podcasting). It looks at how Project Management shapes the business world, features interviews with subject matter experts, and provides information and resources to help you increase your project management skill level.
This podcast is oriented to PMOs of all shapes and sizes and provides shorter episodes, typically 10-15 minutes, that cover topics related to starting and managing a PMO including subject matter expert and PPM vendor interviews.
This podcast covers the highlights of popular project management methodologies, leadership topics, review of project management books, interviews with subject matter experts.
This podcast is dedicated to project managers from beginner to expert and provides the latest in tools, tips, and methodologies that have been found to help others.
This podcast provides business analysis and project management episodes that relate to different areas of the PMBOK.
Project management podcasting seems to be increasing with podcast episodes being released by project management enthusiasts, subject matter experts, training and consulting firms, and vendors alike. I hope we hear from others that provide or may know about other project management podcasts out there.

The simple answer to your question is YES. It really helps a rookie PM. In olden days, the only way to learn is to go to a school/college and sign-up for a course in your favorite subject, study for a year or two or more and earn a degree/certification. But nowadays, there are a lot of ways to learn new things. And podcasting is the new thing that everyone is talking about. Like Mark aptly pointed out, it is really an useful way to spend your time effectively.
In general, to learn about new topic/field, we normally start reading books, magazines etc., on that... right? And podcasts are one of the easiest way to learn new things in this modern world... You need to understand the theory first before you can actually implement it... PM Prepcast really does that well with real-time examples...
Thanks Mark and Magesh. I think I'll give the PM Prepcast a shot. As you also mention - listening to a podcast is a good way to ensure, that you dont wast your travel time.
Well there are a number of PMP templates out there and a number of resources. You should choose according to your interest and where you're currently working. Saving Changes...

I haven't taken the Boston University online classes so I cannot comment. But I do know they offer a free 1 day PM event on campus that they also stream. The event is called Project Management in Practice. Here's the 2011 link - http://www.projectmanagementinpractice.com/
I highly recommend UCLA Extension's project management certificate program. Even if you don't go for the entire certificate, you and just take individual classes both in person and online. Their Fundamentals of Project Management was fantastic (my teacher was awesome!).
Plus, the UCLA Extension prices cannot be beat. I've done A LOT of searching around for quality certification courses and most others are 2 - 4x more expensive than UCLA.
I would recommend Career Academy (http://bit.ly/2fnjzjJ) for PMP and CAPM training and exam prep courses. They have a good price for their annual membership and they are PMI Registered Education Provider (REP). Career Academy is an institution that offers online on-demand video-based learning solutions for IT Networking, Cyber Security, Project Management and Office Professionals. You can prepare for the certification exams by taking courses from Career Academy. Saving Changes...
