PMBOK as well as PMP book from Rita Mulcany will be a good book to train for PMP Certification. I trained like this for my PMP Certification.

Hi Terasa, as i did before, I used Rita as main material, PMBOK should be secondary, used for verifying of contents inside of Rita. Sample test also use Rita fastrack.

Hi Terasa,

PMBOK is the main one.
Rita Mulachy provides good resources and theme to follow for exam.
You may please also refer to Oliver Lehmann site and references available on the net

Are you a trainer or exam attendee ??

If you are a trainer it would be best for you to define the syllabus according to the PMBOK and use Rita as a supporting. PMBOK is the reference. Rita is supporting.

If you are a attendee, you could attend the 4-day PMP workshop that will give you the full PDUs needed and then can prepare according to Rita, take some preparatory exams and then write the PMP exam.

Other good books than Ritas are HEAD First PMP or the newest PMP prep book by Joseph Philips (my personal favorite by the way).

If you want to offer your students a PMP training simulator the one by PMAspire might be a good choice.
If you are interested I can make a contact/deal for you. Just let me know.

Regards,

Markus

Teresa -

The training company I work for has partnered with Velociteach and we find their system to be more holistic than other offerings as it provides multiple different methods of learning including visual, tactile and audible.

Yay Kiron! Of course I think Velociteach's materials are the best, but even if I didn't teach for them I would still think that!

Thank you for your suggestions! One of my colleagues also mentioned Alan Crowe's Velociteach materials. I wonder about how much you could expect to spend on licensing?

Teresa, your main source is the PMBOK guide and you can explore further for the different topics of the guide from outside sources by reading particular book for example
" Project Procurement Management by Quentin W. Fleming is a good source to understand the type of contracts, risk, selection and all legal etc, second book is "Total quality Management for Project Management" by Kim H and Jon M will explore all 7QC, PERT, Project Accuracy Funnel. FMEA and basic communication etc.

For my training classes, I usually stick to this check list -

Study from -
PMBOK
PMBOK (second read because the first time is never as easy)
Rita (reference)
Head First (reference with lighter/fun side)
Leroy Ward

Sample tests -
Rita
Head First
PM Study
Skillsoft
Leroy Ward
Oliver Lehman (this is wicked bad a$$ exam and taking it sooner will shatter the self confidence of the applicant)
