I probably get that question once a month or so, and just state that I learned a few years into my career that I enjoyed working with people to achieve something unique more than working with technology, hence my shift from technology work to project management.
And now I say that I enjoy elevating individual or team capability more than managing projects or people, hence I teach and coach...

Once in a while I get that question, so normally I tell them that I like to be detail oriented, and I like to organize and keep straight many disparate activities at a time.

I tell people that as a project manager Im basically the conduit for what the needs, wants & values of the sponsor flow. That this happens by getting people to do things they don't always want to do. To do that on time, on budget & within scope & enjoy it.

Take aim & target? It's a journey & management by style. The key is "... and enjoy it!" not the ".. they don't want to do" part. That means you work with the team. Form it. Make it the norm. That's the taking aim. The sponsor gives you the traget. The team, not me, the how. By storming then performing.
Because I'm not a contractor my team are 8n the performing self realisation stage
