I need some information on how to quantify the potential impact of a project idea that is yet to be carried out. Any idea or guide is welcomed

That belongs to buisness analysis field. There is an activity former named "enterprise analysis" today named "needs assessment"/"strategy analysis" depending on you take the PMI or the IIBA literature. Time ago I wrote an article that was published by the PMI and the IIBA as "best practice" about the meassure of impacts and define the solution taking into account the whole enterprise architecture. To clarify, I'm assuming you are referring to an idea for a new project? If so, then you will want to identify the KPI or KPIs which the successful completion of the project would improve. Having done that, you'd want to locate or gather a baseline reading for these KPIs and (with the appropriate SMEs involved), determine an achievable target for these KPIs based on the proposed scope of the project, taking into account risks and unintended consequences of performing the project.

Seun - to Add to what Kiron said. Doing a risk assessment - impact analysis with the SMEs by creating a What Ifs Scenario schedule to help see the impact on scope, cost etc may give you a big picture of the potential impact before you carry out the project.

Yes I agree a cost-benefit analysis as with most business plans, or market analysis, feasibility or ideation stage.
