I am an Independent PM Contractor, I am getting ready to sign my first contract using the term "Professional Work Day". Can anyone point me in the right direction where I may find a description of this to use in my contract? Your help would be appreciated.

A "professional day" is usually an eight-hour day, but it means that you will not be paid overtime if it is longer than eight hours. Usually it means that you will bill and be paid by the day and not by the hour.

A good contract should include a definition of terms like "professional day". For your contract it does not matter what the general definition is. You want to know what your client considers it to be. I recommend coming up with a definition that you are comfortable with and proposing it to the client. Get that wording included in the contract. I also strongly recommend having a lawyer take a look at the contract before signing. He or she could help with a good, tight definition, or perhaps they will advise you to ask for different language than "professional day".

Yes, you can land into trouble with overtime payments if the contract terms are subject ti interpretation.
