Quite often we get initial denial from the team when trying to bring new change or when you shake them from their comfort zone.

What other challenges have you faced?

Adrian, YES training is very important for the success of project or any work and yes both training sometimes it is in the requirements identified that with product delivery you have to deliver training that's one thing second I always deliver training to my team members it is included in the budget or at least I would say I ensure to include that and not miss on training it doesn't matter if you are dealing as contractor or employed then you arrange for that in the budget.
It is OK that team qualified for certain tasks but many projects has different requirements in order to deliver the requirements with quality I need to train my team.

Thank you very much this is something new for me. :)

In all the circumstances where I had to do with training the employees this was always done off-project. I mean you were not allowed to put in your timesheet the time spent in training as being work done for the project. It was not possible to have training the team members as a task in the project. Training the users of the delivered product by the project team members yes. this was possible.

I thought training comes from the functional department's budget so that the employees that are trained can handle work on different projects that require the same skills.

Thanks again.

Adrian, Thank you for your comment it is possible that few of the preassigned members by the functional manager be trained but as PM we also need to identify the required training for the team to ensure smooth transition so many times you discover that few training sessions are needed to enhance the ability of the team for example if you have a schedule to terminate fibre optic cables and even the team knows but they have not done such project for long time so it doesn't hurt to arrange for one day session to remind the team on how properly should be done this will save you of rework and maintain delivery quality as all connection of your SCADA system depends on fibre optics reliable connections.

Adrian, In many projects it is necessary the team members to be trained. But which party should pay for training cost, depend on the type of contract. For fix contract, a contractor may allocate some budget for training team to reduce predicted risks. Riyadh gave a vary good example about replacement communication system for a SCADA system. Interruption of communication in a SCADA system, may cost too expensive that is not comparable with the cost of training. But about time contract type, it should be stipulated in agreement if team training cost is part of the project cost or not.
