How to break into the world of PM? I will have my MBA in 6 mos and Masters in PM in a year. I volunteer fo projects to gain as much opportunity at using PM techniques.
I fell into project management accidentally. I did not even know what "project management" was, but I started managing budgets, schedules, and so on for different projects. Discovering that there were professional organizations, classes, methodologies, and so on was a wonderful surprise and a great help. Sometimes I am jealous of people like you who were able to get the education first.
You may need some more business experience before someone will trust you with running a project. I would not hire someone right out of school; I would want them to know my industry and domain before giving them control of a budget and a team.
You could serve as a team member for a while, or you could go back to whatever type of work you did before you started the MBA program, perhaps aiming to work at a higher level. In some areas, "team lead" is a level below "project manager", so perhaps you could seek a role as a team lead.
Let us know more about your background, besides the MBA. Perhaps there is some industry-specific advice someone could help you with. Saving Changes...
