I believe that knowing what success will really look like can help the team stay focused and make important decisions throughout the life of the project.
So, in order to be successful, I guess bench-marking should be implemented as a structured, systematic process. What is your opinion? Saving Changes...

Yes, this often ignored task is very critical in terms of measuring success. Also, when you have a clearly defined benchmark, the process of customer acceptance becomes hassle free.

Thanks Sooraj, and I agree with you on this.
Benchmarking should be included as an integral part of the project process.
Anish, my measures would be done safe (no injuries), done with quality and done with efficiency.
Rest you know it has to be on time and within budget.

Well, I see teams work better on projects when they know how much value it will bring to company's results. When you feel like you're making the difference, you engage much more. That's what I experienced. Benchmarking can be a good aproach when you're looking for scenarios, like "company A adopted this process/solution/sofwtare. Will it work for my environment"?

Totally agree with Fernanda. We actually had problems closing out projects because "done" wasn't clearly defined. In an effort to provide customer service we actually crossed over from project management to operations--great for operations but not so great for the PMO.

Thanks Drake, for your feedback.
Do you use dashboards for your KPI reports?
For me success is the stakeholders that are happy and sign off the project. I have said before that a project can effectively fail, as long as the stakeholders are happy and sign off.

If the stakeholders are happy then all is well.
