I am spearheading the development of a PMO for a small software company that has never used any formal system or approach to project management prior to bringing me on board. I have a lot of experience in developing project management systems, training in PM methods, etc., but this is my first go at creating a full on PMO.

I am a big proponent of documentation and clearly defining roles, procedures, etc. in writing - but i would rather not re-invent the wheel if possible. Does anyone have access to any documentation on existing PMO's? Anything from defining processes to mission statements could be useful.

Hello Don,

There are some great articles and templates right here on gantthead.com - just type PMO in the search and you will find loads. Starting with one of my favorites - creating the charter for the PMO.

From past experience, especially in a smaller company, you will want to go slow. People never seem to learn as quickly as we think they should or want them too. As PMs we may have been doing this forever and things seem simple to us but to people that are just being introduced to the concept, it takes repetition, repetition, repition.

Keep us posted on how it goes! :)
