What does everyone use? What do you like/not like about the software you use? Why? If you could pick any one - which would it be and why? Saving Changes...
The Project Management Institute recently published a book, 'Project Management Software Survey' ISBN1-880410-52-4 that may be of help. This book is available from the PMI book store, and can be ordered through the web site.
I have recently acquired a copy, and it is very detailed, and may just help. Saving Changes...
I am considering implementing Project Central for a small IT group of about 100 people. I had heard that another local company had tried to implement it twice and failed. They happened to be a Microsoft Partner.
Yet companies like Lucent are using it successfully. What gives? If its implemented 100% correct, does it work? Saving Changes...
I'm using eProjectControl for my small projects. Is very simple and very easy to use. If you have projects that involves less than 30 team members this is the way to go. Saving Changes...
I would suggest you look into Rational Concepts web-based project management suite. I think their scheduling tool is the tool spotlight this week.
They're small, relatively unknown, but, for my money...the absolute best. Their entire suite is written in Java 3.0, which makes their entire solution accessible from anywhere. No other vendor can make this claim and actually back it up. When our in-house Java developers saw what RC had done in Java...they were absolutely speechless.
Here's a summary: It does everything and its easy to use. The exceptions...no time tracking - however, it will integrate with any of the major time tracking applications. No resource scheduling algorith...this will be released in the December/January update.
Like I said...they are small and unknown. Which means their marketing department may need some help...but as a provider of project management software solutions...they are second to none.
Hope this helps.

Anyone who is serious about reducing project durations, on-time delivery and increasing project output should look at Critical Chain. While it may not be right for every setting, it offers a significant breakthrough in project management and provides resource management (the real challenge of PM, in my opinion) capabilities that are unparalleled. While I am not in the software business, I have tested, reviewed and implemented all of the software products I know of that support Critical Chain, and Concerto from Speed-to-Market is by far the best available. Unfortunately I have experienced similar problems with MS Central. Our PMO has tried working with it for about a year now and it simply has too many problems to list. Saving Changes...

Looking into Microsoft Project 2002 Enterprise version....any feedback? Saving Changes...
While I still stand by my earlier post, I'd like to add that *Best of the Breed* software tool needs to be define in terms of the organization's actual needs and budget, so that even a casual planning tool such as MS Project or SureTrak (my personal favorite) has their niche in project management. If you're running a large DoE or DoD project, then Artemis would be the correct tool to use. Saving Changes...
