I work for a software house creating management software for financial institutions. A corporate direction is CMMI and we are now going for level 3. The CMMI guru has asked me about software that could collect requirements and trace how requirements are used in the development process. He is looking for something that would allow him to see that requirement 42 was used in use case 12 and in items 34-45 of the design document.
Does anyone know of software that could do that? We are on the verge of implementing MS Project & Portfolio Server, but I do not beleive it can do this.
All suggestions welcome! Thanks in advance.

There is more - just search on Requirements Mapping in google.
Also you might consider a simple Lotus Notes application that would allow you to catalog requirements, business cases and workflows and then correlate them.
Finally you might try a self articulating methodology that integrates requirements traceability into its process like Helix (had to get a plug in)
Good Luck

Thanks for the suggestions Michael. Have to admit that both a new to me. Lotus Notes I love, but that is out of the question here. Still, you've given the CMMI guru enough to go on.
Many thanks!! Saving Changes...

Caliber is one tool I had suggested too. It does seem to have a lot of capacity for requirements management. Thanks for the added vote! Saving Changes...
Michael is correct. I work for Artifact Software and Lighthouse can definitely help. Lighthouse is a single repository for tasks, requirements, test cases, test results, defects, change requests, issues, comments, resources and more. Since everything is in one database and any project artifact can be linked to any and all other project artifacts, you can automatically create very powerful traceability reports.
We actually just released an upgrade to our traceability reporting so that just about any imaginable report can be created. We also have helped other organizations improve their CMMI level. If you contact Artifact, ask for Jon Graham, he's one of our CMMI guys and he can help.
Good luck! Saving Changes...

Hi
I was working on a very large and complex project with over 10 stakeholder organisations/ customers. We got great results using Telelogic Doors for requirements gathering, right through contracting to acceptance testing. My experience was that a lot of the value was lost when we tried to deploy it in smaller projects in the following years but that was a long time ago and I am sure it has come along since then.
Good luck

Thanks for the lead. I understand that Telelogic has been taken over by IBM, and hope they still have the Doors product. I will pass the lead on. Saving Changes...

There is also a Requirements Management section in the gantthead tool finder. It might help you define the universe of tools that have the features you are looking for. Saving Changes...
