Marriage = Portfolio
Caring for children = Program
Getting kid A to soccer practice = Project
Why might a Portfolio, Program or Project fail? Lack of communication. Same reason why many marriages fail. The projects are off doing their own thing without checking back/communicating with the program.
You may say the marriage event is a project, then it is an operation!

Kevin, with all due respect to Gurus here with their valued opinion I have to disagree on this one why because the project must have an end (close out phase) so the marriage to me is an operation ongoing daily activities to last forever only death will cause other managing director to take over and look after the rest.
your inception and intend to marry is a project like to open a factory but then you don't want the factory to close out you want to continue running operation so do the marriage but that been said it doesn't mean that things can't go wrong with RCA root cause analysis can figure out most of contributing factors and because marriage involve emotions not only measurable materials so it is hard to predict even with good selection but continuous operation with a good maintenance and reliability programmes that keeps the health of the assets last longer.
Maintaining a successful plan for standard operation procedure like not allowing external stakeholder's negative interference and ground rules for conflicts resolution aligned with strategic goals will ensure long lasting.
so when you marry you don't set a close out date only project does.
