I am talking about the whole marriage, not the event of the wedding.

I agree with Dinah, it is a portfolio.

I am still not sure who the PM is.

I'll go with a portfolio with embedded operations.

A project has a beginning an end, does marriage has a beginning and an end?

A portfolio does not have an end. Within it the projects have beginnings and ends.

Interesting question and am enjoying the responses. I would say it was more like portfolio management but would never tell my wife that.

My favorite project management joke goes like this ... How does a project manager propose to his girlfriend? He gives her a ring and an SOW.
Now I want to try that.

It's just a never ending re-negotiation of scope and budget where every decision needs signing off but the approvers are on Holiday and the Out Of Office gives no alternative contacts. So you just revert to the original SOW which is out of date and missing half the risk assessments....oh and sales takes no responsibility for impossible promises made at the start...

Kavin, I would say it is a combination of both. Some part of it goes like an operation, a routine maintenance work, other part involves many other programs and sub-programs. There are some successful, some failed projects, some are abandoned midway, you can see all kinds of projects here. Overall it fails when failed sub-projects take lead role and successful ones take a back seat. To make this overall project / portfolio work you need all kinds of skills and many expertise.

It is a portfolio consisting of several programs and projects.
I do align with Dinah.

It rather consists of several programs, projects and operations having their own life cycles and phase closeouts.

On the other hand; It has more of a tendency to resemble a weak matrix system if you consider the positions of the husband , wife and siblings in their respective spheres of contribution in the family.

Marriage has a beginning and an end just like all projects.I guess this project is until death do us part or some other incident causes us to part ways.
