Hello, what certifications do I need to have in order to land a pmi career right out of college?

As per education and experience, if you have little experience go to CAPM. If you have experience in projects it's better to start PMP. PMP is the most strong popular certificate in the world!!!!!

Thank you for your advice I really appreciate it. I contacted the representatives of a website that offered PMP courses and the certification once I passed the exam. This is my 7th year working for USPS having tasks assigned to each employee in my department (maintenance mechanic) everyday making sure the mail processing machines run smoothly and one of the representatives told me that was enough work experience to apply for the PMP certification because I wasn’t leading the project but I was apart of it.
Was that accurate information?

That does not sound like project management activity to me, rather BAU or operational work.

The CAPM might be a more realistic near term target till you gain some demonstrable project management experience.
