How to get PMP certified?

I'm a project manager in NYC and want to get PMP certified.

How do I go about getting certified? Any advice is appreciated!

I would suggest to start with PMI official information from http://www.pmi.org/CareerDevelopment/Pages...redential.aspx, and particularly the "PMP credential handbook". It should respond to most of your questions about obtaining the PMP certification. Hope it helps.

You have several options to prepare. I'd recommend that you join the local PMI chapter, they usually run prep courses. Or you can pay a big chunk of cash for a boot camp. If you are experienced as a pm, you can self-study. There are many books out there for self-study.

I agree with George, you should start at PMI.org.

As George indicated, check the PMI site for the requirements. If you have the experienced required then check out some providers of PMP Prep courses in your area.

You can take a number of PM courses that will make you a good project manager, but the PMP Prep course preps you to pass the exam. As the instructure said when I took my course - this is not about teaching you how to be a PM; it's about how to think the PMI way and pass the exam.

Check out different providers - some offer a guarantee that if you don't pass, you can take the course again at no cost.
