Depends if the PM is going to be managing projects where there is a significant volume of architecture (business or technology) work.
In most cases I'd say no as the two roles (PM & architect) are fairly distinct unlike a PM & BA and it might dilute the individual's focus on being a PM.

Like any other domain, I think it benefits a PM to know something about business & technology architecture but too much knowledge might be a temptation for others to have them wear more than one hat...

I would say that the TOGAF certification would be overkill. However, doing some high-level training on TOGAF could be beneficial if this is something that is discussed regularly on your projects.

I am TOGAF certified. But it is like any other type of certifications: it could help if there is a market demand on the matter. Certifications will not help to get knowledge on the matter. Saving Changes...

I must disagree. For a quick background, I've been studying for the TOGAF cert off and on for about a year. I think the more expose PMs have to different methodologies and frameworks the better. For those who do not know, the PMBOK is mentioned quite a few times throughout as a way to link/tailor to different established frameworks -- just the same as CMMI, COBIT, ITIL, and Prince2, and, to a lesser extent, MSP. And, finally, it never hurts to have a more knowledgeable PM. Life is all about learning. When we stop learning, we might as well die. Saving Changes...
