What would be your speach?
You don't want to threaten the team for example if they sense that you will cut overtime or reduce it.
If your team contains generation gap
If your accent is different from the team it is important to check the message is understood
You have many technical SME
As the saying goes first impression is last impression so what would be your advice on managing day one when to set ground rules

Nothing really prepared, but I would certainly have some thoughts to cover. I don't know if it would necessarily be day one, but having an opportunity to meet with the team as a group or individually is really important in building relations and trust.
Andrew, your day one is the day to meet with most of the team, it is not necessary prepared it is just unwritten speech I don't like to read paper I believe it is more effective when incredible speech delivered direct from the heart and thoughts, thanks for your comment.

Take it one by one low key approach and build the trust.
Kevin, thanks for your comment, building trust usually needs more time.

Help them to understand who you are - your goals and what drives you (and what drives you crazy).

Then ask them if they understand what the purpose for the team is and if not, help them develop a team charter.

Kiron, good points thanks for your comment however do you have a template for team chart or you are refereeing to an organization Hierarchy chart

a team charter sets the purpose and ground rules for the team - I recommend keeping it simple with a couple of sentences for the former and a few (under ten) bullets for the latter. Consider it the "ten commandments" for the team, developed by themselves...

Good morning, and welcome to the XXYY project! My name is Joe Blow, and I'm the project manager. Our project scope at a high level is to deliver the XX by December 25 2018. I'll be responsible for making sure everyone has what they need to complete the project on time and budget. I'd like to stress a couple of things that are very important to the project: Safety and environmental, quality, integrity, and respect for each other. I'm looking forward to working with all of you and getting to know you better, and want to help build a great team while completing the project. Can we please go around the room and introduce ourselves briefly? (Intros) ........ Thanks everyone! We'll all need to meet at regular times, I've set up a meeting schedule. Please let me know right away of any issues that you think may jeopardize the project's success. That's all I have for now, and thanks for your attention!
