Q: If you had the opportunity to choose between a Master in Project Management (MPM) title and a (Project Management Profesional) PMP certification, which one would you go for?

In this scenario, you only have one of the two choices, which one would you go for and why?

Choose carefully and state why you chose that option.

Kevin - yes, hard to decide... But I can't imagine NOT having a PMP.

Although I have my PMP, I would still probably have decided the same. The PMP is [seemingly] more recognizable.

PMP is more applicable for a professional role in project management.

Sante - Even though there are a lot of people would disagree, I'm with you on this one.

I think my following comments are ok in this particular scenario where PMP in terms of Time, Effort, and Cost gives a quicker Payback. I would even go deeper saying that it would be a waste of time and money to have JUST an MPM (notice I say just) unless of course it is formally required by an employer.

Again, in this scenario, I believe PMP cert with a junior PM job, is much better than an MPM title with a junior PM job.

The scenario would be totally different if someone asks about having a PMP/MPM, or having a PMP/MBA or having an MPM/MBA.

PMP/MBA is a suggested option for me, the other two not so much.

This question was raised recently here. I personally am convinced with the PMP.

Masters in PM gives you more of a technical background than anything else.
