I am not sure why I paid to be a member of my "local chapter" as the only thing I receive from them are emails asking me to join, (well I already did). When I asked about volunteering and study groups, I am being told there are no study groups and the only volunteering opportunities are "spread the word" about how great PMI and the PMP is. If this is why I paid the extra money, then I am really disappointed. If there is anyone here that can point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you

Mr. Vergini,
What is the best approach to becoming a board member? I will do my homework and find out the process but if you could guide me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it. I am assuming I need to successfully take and pass the PMP exam prior to applying to the board, correct? I have sent out two separate emails asking how I can volunteer for my local chapter and have not received anything in return, other than, spread the word.
You don't necessarily need a PMP to get on the board, but you do need to get involved with the chapter to increase your influence. This can be very difficult when someone doesn't feel they are getting any benefit or value from the chapter, and that is the catch 22.
