Try to connect with your local chapter or search online and see whether you can get a role as a project coordinator supporting a PM as that will give you some great hands on experience. You can also look for volunteer opportunities.
It's not easy to get a project manager job who has never managed a project, no matter how many certifications or education you possess.

I'm just curious if local chapters could be of any help when it comes to job hunting or is it (most likely) similar to cold calling?

Local Chapters can help with volunteer opportunities and networking. Simply engaging and getting involved, taking advantage of the events can be valuable in expanding an individuals network. From there, opportunities are more likely to arise. So, a little different from cold calling, though, it is a process. It won't happen immediately.

Agree with Anish as he has brought out practical aspects to the issue. I suggest simulataneously prepare/plan for PMP certification

I recommend submitting your resume to a staff augmentation agency (i.e. professional temp agency) that places contractors in project management / analyst related roles. Working as a contractor at a company is a great way to "get your foot in the door", build up your experience, and develop a good reputation. When the company has open positions, the contractors are more likely to be hired than an unknown person that they only know through an interview.

Volunteer, join a PMI chapter, get involved in any project at your current work if possible. And when you are doing that, take a look at the CAPM certification as a stepping stone to the PMP.

Local chapters do tend to focus effort on events. But if you go to the events you have opportunities to network with other professionals. When I went to my first Monthly chapter event, I was barely there 5 minutes when I was approached by one of the volunteers. She welcomed me, made sure I was comfortable and talked to me about the possibility of volunteering in the future at the event. After the presentation, I was again able to touch base with a few people.
So, I would suggest you find an event convenient to you and attend. Once there you will have the opportunity to discuss how you can gain the experience you are looking for.
Good luck.

Project coordinator would mean that you work directly under a project manager. You may be working on scheduling, setting up meetings, documentation, etc. It could help you develop valuable skills in addition to "getting your foot in the door". Job hunting is all about connections. That is what you need right now.
