I'll try my local chapter but they rarely on here besides events.
Local chapters do tend to focus effort on events. But if you go to the events you have opportunities to network with other professionals. When I went to my first Monthly chapter event, I was barely there 5 minutes when I was approached by one of the volunteers. She welcomed me, made sure I was comfortable and talked to me about the possibility of volunteering in the future at the event. After the presentation, I was again able to touch base with a few people.
So, I would suggest you find an event convenient to you and attend. Once there you will have the opportunity to discuss how you can gain the experience you are looking for.
Good luck. Saving Changes...

so project coordinator is a good position to start at?
Project coordinator would mean that you work directly under a project manager. You may be working on scheduling, setting up meetings, documentation, etc. It could help you develop valuable skills in addition to "getting your foot in the door". Job hunting is all about connections. That is what you need right now. Saving Changes...

Michael, I don't know what area of project management you are interested in -- project management runs a wide gamut from IT, construction, manufacturing, healthcare, chemical engineering, civil engineering, logistics, etc., etc.
My career was project manager in a manufacturing environment with global chemical companies, and I loved it. You see every facet that makes a company run and you are right there helping to improve performance and the projects are never-ending.
Note: Everyone's career path takes different twists and turns. I was not hired as a "project manager" but I worked my way into the job. Every time the company had a problem, I offered to help with it. I asked the company to pay so that I can become a certified PMP and they were happy to do so.
Best place to start? Find a good company that is focused on improvement. Your first job may or may not have "Project Manager" in its title, but tout your project management skills and bring those skills to the workplace. It won't be long before they recognize the value you bring to them.
Other suggestions: Do you have a profile on LinkedIn specifically saying you have a degree in Project Management? Companies looking for project managers will contact you. You, of course, can send your resume through LinkedIn, too.

I do have a linkedin pg and it does state my resume and degree. But this is a career change which makes it even harder transition. Because I have no experience, I'm trying to get that 1st job that will give me a chance as well as experience.
